What does Summit Rental Co. offer?
We provide equipment rental services. Currently we have a 3T tipper truck and furniture trailer available for hire. We are looking to expand in the future, so let us know if there's anything that you need.
Who can rent from you?
Anyone with a valid driver’s licence.
Where are you based?
Sydenham, Christchurch. We can provide drop off / pick up options and are currently offering free pick up / drop off for multi day hires in the urban area.
How do I make a booking?
You can book online, message us, email, or call directly.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking early, especially during weekends and peak moving periods.
How do I choose the right vehicle?
Check out our equipment pages to see if the equipment is the right one for you. Tell us what you require and we can recommend the best option.
Can I view the vehicle before booking?
Yes, just get in touch to arrange a time.
Are your vehicles well maintained?
Yes – all equipment is regularly serviced, cleaned and checked before each hire.
Are there distance charges?
100km are included in our tipper truck hire fee. ($0.50 / km in excess of this).
There are no distance charges for our trailers.
Can I tow with the tipper truck?
Yes, a 3.5T certified towbar is fitted. Please note our insurance does not cover 3rd party trailers.
How much does it cost to rent?
Pricing depends on the vehicle and duration. Check our equipment pages for pricing.
Do you charge by the hour or day?
We charge by the day.
Are there any additional costs?
Potential extras may include:
Fuel (not included, to be returned full by hirer)
Excess kilometres (after the first 100km, for powered vehicles only)
Damage up to the insurance excess
Cleaning fee - only applies if the equipment is returned unreasonably dirty or containing rubbish
Late return fee - if returned late without prior agreement
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept card (online) payments or bank transfers. Cash may be possible, depending on your requirements.
Is a bond required?
Yes, a refundable bond is required for all hires. This is from $250, depending on equipment and duration.
What do I need to rent?
A valid driver’s licence.
Is insurance included?
Comprehensive Insurance is included in the hire fee. Please note 3rd party trailers are not covered by our insurance.
Our trailers are insured, but this does not cover 3rd party towing vehicles.
What is the Insurance Excess?
$1000 (aged 25+), $1500 (aged 21-25), $2000 (under 21)
Who is allowed to drive the vehicle?
Only licensed drivers listed on the rental agreement.
Is there a minimum age to rent?
No, but refer to excess for young drivers above.
Where do I pick up and return the vehicle?
Sydenham - pickup and return details are confirmed at booking—flexibility is a key part of our service.
How does pick up work?
We operate a contactless pick-up service. After booking, instructions are sent for pick-up including a pin code access to a lockbox for the key. Arrangements can be made to meet you at pick-up, if required.
What are your pickup and return times?
Normally any time between 7AM - 5PM but there is flexibility outside this, just let us know.
How long is a ‘day’ rental?
Typically 7AM - 5PM, unless otherwise agreed.
Do I need to refuel before returning?
Yes, return the vehicle with full DIESEL.
Can I extend my rental?
Yes, subject to availability—just contact us as soon as possible.
What happens if the vehicle breaks down?
Contact us immediately— together with you we'll arrange our AA breakdown cover.
What happens if I damage the vehicle?
Accidents happen - just let us know. You’ll be responsible for costs as outlined in the rental agreement (up to the insurance excess).
Can I cancel or change my booking?
Yes—please give as much notice as possible, a minimum of 24 hours before the start of hire is required.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes, payment up front is normally required. We can consider alternative payment terms, if required.
What happens if I return the vehicle late?
Additional charges may apply—always best to let us know early.
